Stay safe: spot and avoid scams

In short

Never pay before you see the item, meet in a busy public place, and keep the chat on Shaxi. If something feels too good to be true, it probably is.

The safe way to buy and sell

  • Never pay before you see the item, and don’t prepay to reserve, deliver or release it.
  • Meet in a busy public place, and check the item properly before paying.
  • Never share your MoMo PIN or any code sent to your phone.
  • Watch for fake payment messages: check your real MoMo balance, not an SMS someone forwards.
  • Keep the chat on Shaxi, so there’s a record if something goes wrong.

What the marks mean

  • TOP · Ad and URGENT mean the seller paid for placement or a badge. They don’t mean the seller is trusted.
  • Member, Pro seller and Business ✓ mean the seller pays for a Shaxi plan.
  • ✓ Verified means the seller passed Shaxi’s Ghana Card check and has an active Business plan.
  • These marks show on the website now; an app update adds them in the Shaxi app.

Report a problem

  • Sign in, then on the ad select Report this ad on the website and choose a reason, such as Scam or fraud. In the app, choose the closest reason, or Something else.
  • A listing that several buyers report as a scam can be hidden until Shaxi’s team checks it.
  • Buying an event ticket from someone? Accept a transfer only from someone you know: Shaxi can’t protect money paid outside Shaxi, and a screenshot of a ticket can be fake.
