Drive with Shaxi: what you need and how approval works

In short

Sign up in the Shaxi Driver app with your licence, a clear photo of yourself, and your vehicle’s insurance and roadworthy certificate. Shaxi checks your papers and tells you when you’re approved.

Who can drive

  • You must be 18 or older (taken from your licence).
  • Your licence class must match the vehicle: car, SUV or van needs class B–F; motorbike needs A; tricycle needs A or B.
  • One licence can be used on only one driver account. You don’t need a Ghana Card: your licence is your ID.
  • You agree to the Driver Terms and a background check.

What you can drive

  • A car or SUV for Shaxi Pro rides, a Keke (tricycle) or an Okada (motorbike). Comfort, Premium and XL aren’t running yet, and deliveries are coming soon.
  • Okada runs as a pilot in Greater Accra, including Kasoa. An Okada must be 2015 or newer, and a Keke 2012 or newer.

Your papers

  1. Your photo: just you, looking at the camera, no cap or sunglasses.
  2. Your licence, front and back: use the card itself (not a copy), in good light, flat on a dark table. Type the licence number and dates exactly as printed.
  3. Your vehicle: category, make, model, year, colour and number plate (for example GR-1234-25). Engine Capacity (CC) is optional.
  4. Vehicle papers: insurance (with its policy number) and roadworthy certificate, with their expiry dates. Vehicle registration is optional.

After you submit

  • Shaxi checks your photos for blur, glare and cut-off edges and may ask you to retake one.
  • A Shaxi reviewer then checks your papers. The app shows that your application is under review, and you’re notified when you’re approved. If one paper needs fixing, you’re told which one and why (see “Papers or car sent back?”).

Before your first trip

  • Buy driving minutes to go online. Today’s plan is GH₵20 for 720 minutes, valid for 30 days, paid from your wallet or by MoMo (MoMo adds about 1%). Minutes count trip time, not time online. Unused minutes expire when the plan ends, and you can’t buy a new plan while you still have minutes.
  • Commission today: none on Shaxi Pro and Keke trips, 15% on Okada trips.
  • Cash trips: you collect the cash from the rider, and any Shaxi commission is taken from your wallet, even if that takes it below zero. Wallet trips: your earnings go to your wallet. Wallet money can’t be withdrawn yet; contact support about payouts.
  • On a trip: accept before the timer ends. At pickup, swipe the arrival bar (it reads Slide to confirm arrival near the pickup, or I have arrived further away). If the app asks, enter the rider’s 4-digit code, then Slide to start trip and Slide to complete trip.
  • Declining or missing 3 requests in a row takes you offline for a short pause (1 minute today). Shaxi warns you if you accept 80% or fewer of your last 50 requests.
